Please help me (if I'm not to far beyond help yet!) I have a neighbors F-20 some time in the 60s he started to widen out the frame a dropped in a Y-block V8 Ford, to make a long story short the motor never started. Now I have the tractor and I want to put a 390 big block on the tractor with a C6 auto in between the motor and the orignal 4 speed. The tractor will make a neat piece at the show and I can run it at the pulls for fun (If anything it will be a rake tractor like no other!!). I have enough parts to complete the tractor laying around and the only thing I will have to buy is a 4bbl manifold, the C6 tranny and tires. We are putting new (niped and bent frame rails on the tractor to get the width for the new motor. Up front I'm completly doing away the old post steering and putting a front end off on OLD 2 ton bus. This wil keep the front end even when it's off the ground and provide some cusion to come back down on. I will only keeep the original transmission rear end final drives and Radiatior. Now my question if I had to put a year on this tractor how do I find out. The motor is long gone, are there numbers elsewere! It had the twin gas tanks (soon to be replaced by polished pony kegs) if that helps. I also want to know if any one knows much about the final drives on these tractors. Will they stand up to the added horse power and speed? can I take the final drives off and run direct off the axels by cutting the tube in some and adding seals? Alan ballntne@miusa.net
