Check your plug wires on the cap to make sure you don't have a pair crossed. Should be in this firing order on the cap: 2-1 As the rotor rotates CW. 4-3
Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if you have good suction while someone makes an attempt to start the engine. You need good manifold vacuum to pull that fuel into the engine.
You may need to recheck your distributor's timing by bringing No1 piston near the radiator to TDC on the compression stroke. Then remove the cap and see where your rotor is pointing. Should be at the No1 plug tower. Both valves should be closed and the timing marks should be aligned when you're at TDC. If the rotor is off you will need to pull the distributor and then reinstall it so the rotor is at the No1 plug tower. Hal

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
