I was at a local junk year last week and there was a nearly complete BN sitting there. I was thinking about it as a new project. Turns out it has a cracked block. Is there a way to tell looking at it if the block is only cracked on the outside or do I need to put some water in it and see where it runs out. I'd hate to drain the oil at the site and have to deal with the disposal afterwards. If the block is only broken to the outside I don't have a problem getting it welded. I plan to use it as a farm tractor so looks isn't important to me and taking it as is would save some money from buying another engine.
