Help with front pulley

With the last C motor I rebuilt, I did the usual chip on the front pulley trying to get it off, had to replace it, and then felt like I was beating the crap out of a fresh engine trying to seat the new pulley. Does anyone have any sugestions? Since I will have the crank in to be ground anyway, I would like to have them drill and tap the end for a bolt, but has anyone tried matching a later pulley up to a C crank? I thought somewhere around the 240 they started bolting on the pulleys, has anyone put one of these on, or do you know if the original pulley has enough of a shoulder to hold a bolt (I don't have one apart at the moment to look)? Thanks for any ideas, Stan(VA).
