Could very well be the pot-metal oil slinger gear that is supposed to lube the top shaft bearings, They wear & get sloppy after all these years. I have heard of reputable mechanics destroying these gears with a hammer & drift to quiet the tranny down without disassembly. Of course, I would never advocate that kind of activity, and the noise you are hearing may be something altogether different. Maybe Harold H., or StanVa. or one of the other Farmall gurus will have different idea.
