Hi Nick, 40w is going to make way to much pressure unless your system pump is really worn and as far as leaks go your not loosing that much on a small leak. Of course a large leak should be fixed. The colder the climate the thinner the oil has to be. My son tells me that they have went to all 10w/30w on there eqpt. and that works really well. They have to stock less oil and we're in Arizona where 120 degrees in the summer keeps the hydraulics working. He says regular 10w hyd oil just doesn't hack it here during the summer time. T_Bone
