My H has developed a noise in the transmission that I cant understand. When the shifter is lightly brushed against first gear without the clutch in its makes a sound like gravel tumbling around in the tranny even while it sits in neutral. Pushing the clutch stops the gravel noise.
Some other symptoms exist but I don"t know if they are related or not.
1. When put in 5th gear, it only partially goes in and pops back out when you let out on the clutch.
2. When the PTO is disengaged it still spins at a high revolution as if its engaged. I know they tend to spin a little but this one is spinning far faster than any of the other tractors I have.

What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?").
