Any cast-in number is NOT going to be a serial number. The number ending in R1 is a casting number for the engine block, which may or may NOT be the part number for the block.
Serial numbers will ALWAYS be STAMPED, and NOT cast as part of the main assembly. SOME International engines--and I don't know if the C-135 is one of them or not--have a machined pad on the side of the block, near the front, just below the head. This is where the ENGINE serial number will be stamped. Replacement blocks were not always stamped, so if it IS a replacement block, it may not be stamped.
