Jon, that setup on top of the generator is the cutout relay. It opens up the circuit so the battery doesn't run dead when the tractor is off. the regulator is the light switch, it should have four positions- low charge, High charge, dim lights, and bright lights. The battery should be positive ground. Nothing else should need to be flipped around.
