Stay on track with the 12V conversion its the way to go. 6V systems require a lot of current and results in significant voltage drop at every connection so how many of the 6 Volts reaches the starter?). This is why power companies transfer power at very high voltage. I had 2 6V generators from Farmall Bs converted without a problem. Take them to another generator man. It might cost a little but it will be done right. Don't try and regulate a 6 V generator to 12V.
