The mufflers from IH in the 50's do NOT have baffles, that includes the ABC, H and M. Ken Updike had mufflers made to the original OEM specs, that began sales last year. I have all 3 of them plus an H muffler I bought about 2002 also to IH specs. I also have a muffler from CaseIH for a Super A before Ken had his made, it does not have a baffle. Can aftermarket built ones have a baffle -- yes, IH has a couple of manufacturers, I don't know which is which. But those mufflers are not original. Also the mufflers built before the late 40's-early 50's are not like the ones built in the 50's, baffled or not I don't remember, but I don't think so. As to sound, I am mostly deaf. In the 50's I drove my dad's H, which had a worn out original muffler replaced by the newer one that Ken copied, both of them made me deaf plus other things I was too dumb not to use.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
