This is from a sheet packed with the last regulator I got for my H. It's 6V pos ground. If the system is not charging or is charging too low. 1. check battery water 2. check belt 3. with engine running at medium speed, touch a wire between the base of the regulator to a good ground. If this solves the problem, the regulator needs to be grounded. 4. If you still have problems, touch a wire between the F terminal of the regulator and ground, also with motor running. If this corrects the trouble, replace the regulator. 5. If you still have problems, short between the GEN adn BAT terminals on the regulator(motor still running). If this solves the problem, replace the regulator. 6. If none of the above helps, you probably have a bad battery, bad wireing, or a bad generator If you have too high a charge with motor running, disconnect the wire on the F terminal. If that solves the problem, replace the regulator. If that doesn't solve the problem, the field, or ground circut is shorted either in the generator or the wireing. I hope this is of some use to you.

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
