I am looking at an IH 464 gas w/ IH front loader (sn says 1974 vintage per tractordata.com).
The tiller i wouldlike to use is 6 feet wide, and would be used for controlling Bermuda grass in sandy loam in my small pecan orchard along with other means of non-herbicide grass control.
Land Pride people have told me that I need to be able to slow the tractor down to between 1.25 and 1.5 MPH.
Tractor data lists this tractor in it's lowest gear as 2.1 mph @ rated RPM of 2400. I suppose I could run at less than this throttled RPM, but then would I have enough power to drive the reverse tiller? Tiller is rated at 23-50 HP so at 41 drawbar and ~46 PTO the IH 464 is sitting at mid-range on the tiller rated power.
Can any of you users and experts tell me if this tractor is suitable for use with the Land Pride reverse tiller Model RTR 2072 from experience, observations or other knowledge? or will it just drag the tiller over the ground (at the speeds I can obtain from the lowest gear) unless it is really moist. Sometimes the ground is moist and sometimes it's NOT.
Also, Any thoughts on what a fair price for the loader tractor would be. It appears to be in very good condition, with steering tight and loader mechanisms tight-- based on pics and speaking with the owner. Many miles away so I haven't actually seen the tractor but could send my brother too look at if worthwhile.
He is wanting $6500. The hours on the tractor are 1965 (hour meter is working) per owner.
Any comments and suggestions are gratefully appreciated for what I have in mind.
