Magnetos are totally separate from all other systems in all tractors. The mag is self powered and will be ruined by connection to any external voltage. The Kill switch is a grounding device that shuts off the mag to stop the engine. If it runs and charges, all is well. If it does not not charge we can help fix that easily. The process is one of decision, either the system should be upgraded to an alternator, or switched to a 12v generator. All light bulbs must be changed, and (if kept as a generator, the regulator must be replaced. If alternator, (simpler in many ways, and more reliable) the system will need to be changed to negative ground. and a method of turning on the alternator put in, and the amp gauge wiring changed so it reads in the correct direction.
