Like I said earlier, it all boils down to cost over time. The T-105, although not a true HD deep-cycle battery . . is still pretty rugged. When they were costing $55 each they were a no-brainer. Now at over $100, it's sometimes a toss-up.
I deal with these batteries a lot in RVs and solar-banks. 8-10 years longevity is common. The heavier L16s do even better and the Rolls Surette the best in the business (but pricey).
I've swapped over to the Deka GC15 equivalent to the Trojan T-105. Not because they are better or worse. Mainly because I can order through any NAPA store. Actual price is usually less and no added shipping costs. There are no local dealers for Trojan in my area so all have to be trucks shipped. 5 years ago a Deka GC-15 was $45 and no shipping charge, whereas a Trojan T-105 was $55 plus truck freight. Now they are both way over $100 each.
By the way, there is one slight advantage to using two 12s in parallel. That if they are mounted far apart. The connector cable can be much smaller gauge, then needed for two 6s in parallel. My RV has two batteries far apart and are two 6s in series. Thus the 8 foot long middle cable is 2/0. Could be much smaller if I was using two 12s in parallel.
My on-board inverter can draw 530 amps at 12 volts. Two 12s hooked in parallel results in only half that amperage in the center cable and thus half the drop. 8 feet of 2/0 copper at 75 degrees F gives a 2.3% voltage drop.
With two sixes in series? Voltage drop on the center copper 2/0 cable at 75 degrees F is almost 12%. 4/0 brings the drop down to 7%. 350MCM cable brings it down to 4.3%.
