12 or 20 is up to you,if you have kids or a wife id go 20 gauge due to recoil.Mossbergs have a 10 year warranty and are very good guns the savage is also fine and one more you might look at is a new england pardner.They are cheap because they are made in china now that they are owned by remington but every part off of a remington 870 will fit it and at a third of the cost they are less than 200 new.Stay away from 410 way to expensive for the ammo. If its just for you id go 12 gauge loaded with #4 birdshot normally a duck or pheasant load , plenty of knockdown without killing the neighbors.
