Can any one give me a good reason why Deere had to use balancers of some kind on their 4 cylinder engines when many other manufacturers built 4 cylinder engines that ran just fine without them. The looks of a Deere 3020 diesel crankcase and an IH 784 crankcase tell me that by just a simple offset of the crankshaft centerline would have solved their issue rather than adding extra moving parts that move at twice crankshaft speed. I don"t see how Waterloo, Mannheim and Dubuque could have all seen this as the best solution.
