WD 45 Allis Chalmers/ Stuck in gear

How do I line up the "forks" to get back in nuetral?
Someone told me that the gear selectors on the forks will look like a box or a square when lined up in nuetral. This is straight gearshift model 45 (i.e. not curved).
I have removed the retaining ring and pulled out the pivot pine (shaft) and look down into top of the gear box and can see the selectors but the forks are below this so must line up the little "square" selectors??? I guess....
I am locked and can't move till I get it in nuetral.
