The thing is for every gallon of ethanol produced you are using from start to finish about 30% more energy to produce it than it makes. That includes tillage and panting, harvest, transportation to the ethanol plant and moving the finished product to the point where it's blended. So as far as energy is concerned it's a loss, not a gain.
Then ethanol about 70% as efficient as gas. So there is no way that ethanol laced gas will produce the same, or increase mileage at the same octane rating.
Yes the federal subsidy for ethanol has stopped but state and local governments are using federal money to subsidize ethanol plans in their states and local areas.
