: : : : : I recently purchased a JD 'A'. : : : Everything was working fine until last night when : : : I started it up and released the brakes. The left : : : brake is jammed. Anyone have any ideas on how to : : : release the pads so I can get in there and take a : : : look? I don't want to have to cut the rivets off : : : the drum if I don't have to. : : : I've already tried to loosen the adjustment for : : : tightening the brake pads. : : : Thanks in advance for any suggestions! : : I was sucessful by rocking the rear wheel forward and back. The problem was the pads had rusted to the drum. This sure beat pulling the brake assembly and soaking in solvent for aweek and repeating the above process. : I don't think it's rusted in - the gentleman I bought the tractor from had just replaced the brakes. Rocking back and forth did not break them loose either. Metallic brake pads will rust and stick overnight even when they are new, but if you were rocking the tractor under power it should have broken loose. Have you tried a big hammer?
