: : This message may be a little off for this board, but hopefully someone may be able to help. : : I have a Delco 10si alternator (general Motors Cars 1973-1980's) that I need to rebuild to ^v positive ground. : : Does anyone know where I may find the parts or instructions on how to do this? : : Many thanks in advance : : Jeff : Sorry to say, I don't think it can be done with any practicality. What you are asking to do is get a reverse diode plate to go to positive ground, and then a different regulator to limit voltage to 6V. Better off to either live with the 6V generator system that you have, which can be quite good if you work all of the bugs out of the wiring, or convert completely over to 12V. For tractor starting use, the 6 volt starter will never know the difference between 6 and 12, except that it is a little on the hyperactive side. Lights and coil must be converted to 12 volt, but gauges can be handled by a dropping resistor. : best of luck. : Jeff King Jeff is correct. It is possible, but not practical. You can bring out the three AC phases from the alternator and run them through a fabricated diode assembly. Then, you can build your own 6v regulator control circuit to allow it to charge the battery properly. All this work gets you a charging system that operates with greater current at low RPM's. Hardly worth the effort....
