wheel horse - snow thrower - please help

I have a Wheel Horse garden tractor, 314-8 with a manual lift (vs hydro) and found an older model Wheel Horse single stage snow thrower that I want to buy for it. (the price is right ) It attaches to the tractor just fine, the belt center distance is ok, however, it is VERY difficult to lift. Is this normal? I am inclined to think not. Do any of you have this set-up and what is your experience with the WH manual lift w/ snow thrower? Thanks!
