the only way to be self sufficient now a days is to be born rich, win the lottery or be sufficient as all get out to come up with the money to afford it. when you look at it, the only way to be really self sufficient is to be wealthy enough to hire folks to do what you can't possibly do yourself in a days work. you can do your part most efficiently by keeping a keen eye on all aspects of what it takes to run a healthy, happy crew ( if you will ) or i would like think of as family. :) you have to be able to produce enough of what other folks need, to be able to keep your tribe content and more; that you can keep in a safe place. truth is shirt happens to the best of us and the best of us has already stashed some valuables in a safe place that you can get to quick in an emergency situation. the better you can achieve this, the better you will live in your old age, because at some point in time if you live too long, someone will have to change your diapers and burp you, that's when you will appreciate stashing some valuables that no one else knows about so you will be able to take care of said person that now feeds, cleans and changes you..... just to put it simply...... just saying

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
