building a pond

I'm planning to build a 2-3 acre pond on my property.
It would be stocked with bass, bluegill & catfish.
Are there any web resources related to this? What I'm
really looking for is the best way to control water level.
Should I use a spillway or a drainpipe? Any help
would be appreciated.
