Ever been so tired of a piece of junk that your first reaction when something goes wrong is to get rid of it? That new Allis Chalmers lawn tractor that we bought a few years ago has me that way. I went to move bales this morning and the wife was gonna mow the lawn. When I got home before dinner,it sat in front of the shop and just part of one yard was mowed. I got on it,it started and died and wouldn't start again. I asked her what happened, she said the deck stopped running, but the engine was still running alright.
I gave it a shot of ether and that's the only way it would run. I told her I wasn't putting one more dime in to that miserable thing. I started checking CL for another mower then put an ad of my own on looking for somebody who buys, sells and trades them who might want to take it on trade.
I went back out after dinner and started checking things with a test light, got it to run a few times intermitently. I finally found a wire that was burned in two on the electric deck clutch. I spliced a new piece in and she's out there mowing now,but one of these days,I'm really gonna be in the wrong mood when that thing pukes out and I'm gonna haul it out in an open field and set fire to it. It's been in the shop more than it's been here at home since we bought it.

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
