Carb Settings

My Ford 801 is running too rich fuel mixture. The exhuast is a bit on the black side and so are the plugs. The carb is a Marvel Schesler. I see two adjustments on it, one up on top of carb and the other on bottom of fuel bowl. Both are set at about 1 1/2 turns from seat.I've tried adjusting several turns, but it still runs rich. Should I go to a smaller jet or can something else be done to lean out?
