I dont think the public has lost much respect -- however I dont think they have any idea what a farmer is now a days . Most still harbor the notion of the (like you ) straw hat and the house with chickens living under it . I would probably be the same if it wasent for the colder environment. Kind of the green acers idea. Most farming now it industrialized and on a large scale.They could care less about respect-- the owner probably never goes to the farm and only sees the bottom line.
