I will be renewing my CDL license later this summer and was going to add a tanker endorsement as I have need to drive a water truck. I am considering an X endorsement which is a combination hazmat/tanker endorsement. I've been cautioned about doing this as I will have to take a physical more frequently, be subject to closer scrutiny, and I think it need to be renewed sooner. I don't really need it but I figured while I am at it to add it. I don't anticipate needing it but I didn't anticipate needing a tanker endorsement either. I want to do any endorsements at the renewal because doing them any other time requires me to retake all the tests.
What are the pros and cons of having a hazmat if I absolutely do not need it? Should I get it? Thanks.
