A number of years back I converted one from 6 volt to 12 volt negative ground and wanted to keep the generator so it would look original rather than going to an alternator. I replaced the 6 volt field coils in the generator with 12 volt field coils from a later model generator and I put on a new 12 volt regulator. I added a resistor to the coil and changed all bulbs, reversed the ammeter wires, and left the starter 6 volt. Everything worked great, it started faster, and it still looked original. Harold H
