Greg, I dont understand your question completely, but if you have converted a 12 volt coil ignition system over to 12 volts, you need the ballast resistor in series with the coil high side because it drops 6 volts and leaves 6 across the coil as it was designed for. The resistor lowers current through the contact points also and lowers the current and temperature of the coil. Im not sure of the coils output voltage as it ramps up only high enough to spark jump the plugs gap and that depends on gap setting and a bunch of other technical stuff to complicated to fool with here. Remove some plugs and with them connected turn the engine over and see how they fire or pull the coil wire out of the distributor and see how its firing by itself. John T
