what should a 12 coil on a 9n be putting out? have resister in line

put diffrant motor in tractor 49,had a 41 4cyl.started once,got hot,long enough to let water get hot,shut down,got new radiator, and now cant seem to get running consistantly,trys to start but wont run,has gas, getting fire,
