natural fertalizer for brome hay fields?

I realize this is way off topic but there is a lot of knowledge here. I am thinking of trying more natural fertalizers on my brome hay fields, especially since fertalizer went up this year again and I doubt it'll go down next spring. I have a good stand of brome on about 50 acres that I bale each year. I don't know yet exactly what the fields will need next year since I haven't sent in the soil samples yet. I was wondering if anyone has tried adding an annual clover or some other nitrogen fixing crop to hay fields to cut down on the fertalizer needs. Alfalfa is a bit of a problem in my area because the blister beetles love it and we have plenty of them. It is a bit early in the land restoration for me to use a perenial clover since I am still fighting a weed problem left over from the previous owner. I think if I can get the current brome stand healthy it will take care of the weed problem but I am not there yet. Any suggestions of what others have done to keep the fertalizer costs more reasonable with minature hay operations? The majority of the hay goes to horse feed so I have to keep that in mind as well. Thanks in advance, Bob

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
