I have a Ford 801 Powermaster. About 2 months ago, it quit running, just quit. On the advice of this forum, I checked spark, etc, ended up replacing the ignition system, battery, coil, condenser, points, distributor cap and rotor and some wires. Then it would start and run until the plugs fouled. After a few times of this, it simply wouldn't start. So I took it to a local fix-it man, who is usually pretty good. He said, one, I had grounded the condenser instead of wiring it into the circuit (oops!), and, two, the cam weights under the distributor plate were bad. They have two opposing, knobs I gues you could call them, one on each weight, that activate or regulate the spark timing in some way. These two knobs were worn almost completely through, just a sliver of metal standing there on the opposing weights. he found a used assembly, replaced it, and it now starts and runs just fine. The engine also vibrates less--the generator doesn't vibrate madly like it did. The engine will accelerate to a roar under no load conditions, but when I put a load on it, it stalls. Not a heavy load either. Also the engine clanks and clicks as it stalls. This tractor would pull a heavy load before, tilling, cultivating, mowing. I replaced the oil in the air cleaner. It has enough oil in the crankcase. Should I change the oil, check the timing (I don't know yet if the fix-it man adjusted the timing after replacing the distributor weights), or.... Fuel filter is clean, carburetor rebuilt by the same fix-it man. If I hold the throttle lever all the way down while working, it will do some work, but it still stalls under a (normal) heavy load. Any help? I feel like I'm drownded. thanx Andy
