Thanks for the info. I am new at using this computer and later found the discussions posted in YTM website about JD B uneven firing. I was glad to find out my observation was commonly known by JD mechanics. I thought I had a flat cam or something. I am a retired Mechanical Engineer and my take on this problem now is that it is merely a characteristic of the uneven firing order. That is the 540 degree lag becomes 720 degree when the #1 plug is removed causing a noticeable responce but then I bet the rpm is actually the same with either plug removed after it settles out. I am happy now that you guys filled me in. The only problem I have now is hard starting since I am using one 6 v battery and it barely cranks and pulls down the coil voltage to 5 v while cranking. I am too cheap to put in the second 6v battery that I think came with the tractor when new.
