Ken, Thank you for taking time to reply. I placed the VOM leads to the battery terminals (pos. to pos. & neg. to neg.) while the tractor was running and the VOM gave strange, garbled numbers. The VOM is a good quality VOM. When the engine is not running the same technique provides a reading of 12.9. thought I was doing something wrong so I dismissed the garbled readings.
