Converting a Farmall M to 12 volts

I've been told that all it takes to convert from the generator system I have on my 1939 M is to use a delco alternator and add a Chrysler resitor
into the ignition circuit. Does anyone know if this will work or have instructions on how to properly do this conversion? Will the starter handle the added voltage, I've been told it will? Is there a resistor that would allow me to continue to use the 6 volt lighting? Does anyone sell a bracket to mount the alternator? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
