You didn"t say how old the battery was but it seems that your charging system is working well as you see the difference on voltage output. I live in the great white north in Michigan and it seems that you made the right choice. When I was younger I never understood why my father was such an advocate for new batteries when a problem cropped up. Now I am pretty much the same way and my kids are rolling their eyes when I start talking about replacing batteries at some frequency. Factory guys I have heard have suggested every 4 years but I start getting uneasy around 6.
