The wheel bearing shouldn't cost too much to fix, the parts will be the most expensive thing, not the labour. On the engine, where exactly are the oil leaks? Has the tractor run in a while and have you heard it run? Ask them to put an oil pressure guage on it to make sure it has good pressure, for low pressure is a sign of a bad bearing in the engine. When you said the 3pt worked, did it lift a load or just lift its self? I would put a bushhog or something else heavy on the back and make sure it lifts it without much noise. Then turn the tractor off and make sure it doesn't fall too quickly, it shouldn't touch for atleast 10 mins in my opinion at the soonest. If your friend who works on cars knows anything about engines he shouldn't have a problem. I would also hook up a compression guage to the engine to make sure the rings are all good. Any of these problems can cost anywhere from hundreds to thousands to fix (worst would be rebuilding the engine). Your friend should be able to work on this thing with just the torque specs, tractor engines are simple.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
