WRONG!!! 80% of bankruptcies are not caused by medical bills. I work in finance and believe me, too many people run up their credit cards, buy too much car, over finance on their homes and when the burden gets to heavy, its the BK laywers to the rescue. Certainly there are cases where BK is warranted, but I can tell you story after story of people buying something today and filing for BK tomorrow, literally! If you miss one payment on VISA the interest does not go to 30%, but it should!!! What the heck are you doing missing a payment on money you owe? How would you react if someone skips out on you? The normal rate for people perpetually missing payments is around 20% and the high interest rate is reflective in the higher risks banks face in the good ol folks not paying what they owe. The new BK law puts little sting back into the BK, as it should be! Dug
