Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone out there has ever turned a dump truck into a dump trailer? If you have or know of a website detailing the process please reply to this. It is a 1970ish Ford 600 series dump truck with a bad engine so we are going to turn it into a dump trailer. One of the main questions I have is, should I power the dump cylinder from the tractor's hydraulics, or keep the hydraulic pump and power that with the tractor PTO? It is a 5 yd. box and I am going to use it w/ either a MF 165, 265 or 1080 (1080 for any large loads). Another question is how long should I make the trailer? Should I extend the length much past the box? I was thinking that by making the trailer longer it would put more of the load on the trailer axle and less on the drawbar? Any hints, tips or answer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Steve
