Sounds high to me. I have had the generator rebuilt for my MH-44 at the local auto electric shop. I have several MH-44s and other similar tractors. They have charged me a low of $14 and a high of $128. Typically it is about $50. I would be suspicious of anyone quoting a price before they have opened it up and know what is wrong. About the only price they could give would be a worst case price. The problem is that it may be a $14 fix but they have your approval for $138. This may start some discussion, but I am a little disappointed with all the people want to put an alternator on with no regard to preserving the originality of these fine older machines.
