always good when you change the batteries in your smoke detectors to test and attach the date of the last change. manufacturers of battery powered smoke dectectors will recommend battery change intervals. and it can vary with the type of battery you are using,alkaline,rechargeable,cheapo etc. etc. i have electric smoke detectors connected to the security system with a battery backup in my house. i always test at least once a month. and for those first installing them always place in front of bedroom doors,kitchen and utility areas.
