Maybe someone can figure this out. I recently bought a 1989 GMC Suburban 2500 with the 350 engine and 400 tranny. It runs and shifts great but it has an idle problem. Because of this problem, I got a good deal on it. When the engine is started, it runs fine. But when the transmission is shifted into drive or reverse, engaging the transmission, the engine will immediately bog down and stall. Once shifted into park, the engine will start right up again. This happens whether the engine is cold or hot. I can drive it with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake, and I have to keep the engine revved faster than normal when I come to a stop. This keeps it from stalling. I took it to the reputable garage that I use, and they said it"s a torque converter or transmission peoblem with something locking up when it"s put into drive. So I took it to a reputable tranny shop who tested it and said the tranny is fine and there"s nothing wrong with it, and that the engine is the problem. They said that the converter in the 400 transmission would not have a lockup problem (?). So I took the vehicle to another reputable repair shop where it is today. This shop specializes in full diagnostics. They have been over every component under the hood, including the sensors, and have tested everything and have only found a slight vacuum leak which they fixed. But the stalling continues when shifted into park or reverse. They are at their wits end. The engine idles smoothly in park. When put into drive or reverse, it almost feels like there"s too great of a load put on the idling engine, causing the stalling. At this point, nobody really knows what"s causing this stalling, and I"m back to square one. All the mechanics so far said that it could be tranny, computer, or even something else. I just want to get this problem fixed before it costs me an arm and a leg. Do any of you mechanics have any insight about this problem?

Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
