Farmall Super H Problems

I just bought a Farmall Super H and drove it home today. It ran OK but, two questions that someone may be able to advise. 1) The engine pulls strong on a heavy pull (no missing) but runs somewhat uneven on the level with no load??
2) When you go down a hill and the engine is acting as a brake, the tractor backfires a lot, even flame shoots out the new muffler?? Any suggestions?
