I own 8 acres and "raise" horses. I would like a tractor in the $4,000 or less range to be used for mowing the pasture, dragging pasture with a harrow to break up manure, eventually to drag an outdoor arena and snow plowing. As I am mechanically challenged, it would have to be in good working order, reliable and able to start in cold weather. I would like to eventually be able to obtain a front end loader, post hole digger and maybe a log splitter. Since I don't have a lot of money to work with, I am looking at older tractors but want a wide front for stability, gas powered and I assume a PTO in order to use a brush cutter, post hole digger and log splitter. Could you suggest year, make and model numbers of older tractors which would best fit my needs? Also, since I cannot afford a large enough tractor to move large round bales, is there any attachments or methods available to safely move large round bales (I have been told that there is an implement to be attached to the rear of a tractor which could be used to drag round bales)?
