Questions on Trailer Plow vs 3PH Plow

I was woundering which plow setup was better and why? I have never used a trailer plow, but see them on the plow day pictures, the trailer plow seems to be more popular with the older tractors. What advantages come from using a trailer plow vs a 3PH plow. For Example a 3PH 3x16 plow seems to take less effort than pulling and turning around a 3x14 trailer plow. Thanks for the info.
