You want to use course sand with fine gravel. Anything else will cause rusting. A spreader doesn't use a lot of power but needs some. Your hydraulic tank might not be big enough for operating very long. If it is you could hook up an electric solenoid to run the spreader. I've seen spreaders that are pto and ground driven. They make hydraulic ones too that usually operate at lower hydraulic pressures. A hydraulic shop could help with setting it up. You would want to keep snow out of your sand. If it thaws and freezes, it will plug up the spreader. Hope this helps. Dave
