We have a 7,500 hour 5488 and a 10,000 hour 1086 and there is no comparison between the two. The 88 series is a much nicer tractor for not much more money but for haying and feeding cattle if you don't need a high hp tractor I think I'd hold out for a Maxxum. A little over a year ago we bought a 6,300 hour 5140 with MFD and a 510 self leveling loader for right at $20,000 which isn't that much more than what a good 86 series with a loader would sell for around here. Our's doesn't have a cab but we put a heat houser on it in the winter and with the canopy it's not too bad. I'd like to have another 5140 MFD with a cab for a second loader tractor but the cabbed Maxxum's are about $10,000 higher than the non cab versions.
