The other day I fixed a IH686 power steering problem but discovered another - the right spindal froze up from lack of grease. I know, I know, - but not on my watch. I got real lucky with last problem - replacing the two broken bolts by being very careful with the drill (cobalt bits) and easyouts. No re-tapping required. The spindal was something else. Had to heat it up a lot to get it free - some places cherry red. Not much of a choice since beating it with a 10lb sledge wouldn't move it - even with a number of real good swings and soaking it with WD-40. So, how much damage did I do the temper of the IH686's front end ????? I let it air cool and don't want to spend the money to replace as nothing is disformed. The spindal has to be replaced - mushroomed the top as well as the two bushings and thrust bering.
