I was "raised Ford" and when it comes to pickups I have stayed Ford. However according to a recent Car and Driver comparison test, the '99 Chev/GMC K2500 beat out the F250HD 4x4 in ride, handling and horsepower. It could tow and haul as much, and the bed was lower and easier to load without giving up ground clearance. If you look at the reliability guide in Consumer Reports, there's not a whole lot of difference. I don't care what make you're talking about, you hear the same stories about guys fixing things on pickups. I used to think Ford was ahead because their stuff was simpler and ruggeder than the other people's, but with the latest designs I don't think that's true any more. They seem to have gotten worse and GM appears to have gotten better. When we turn the odometer on the '87 F250HD we have now over the third time we just might give one of Chevs a try. So far, we have 240 K on her.
